firmware lock out screen

trying to turn on my MacBook Pro and it loaded to a black screen with a padlock on it. can't seem to start it up in safe mode, recovery mode or any other way

A firmware password can only be set by someone with direct access to the computer. Assuming it wasn't you who set it, who else had possession of your Mac?
