Is iOS mail app defaulting SMTP server?

I am getting this message when trying to reply to a gmail server

I checked with my mail server https://support.tigertech.net/iphone-relaying

and verified that all of those setting are correct.

Is iOS mail app using my “default” mail: icloud.com as my SMTP server for replies?

It sounds like your mail app tries to use icloud SMTP server but you're replying to a gmail email. That is considered relaying. Check your mail account settings. There should be something in there to make your gmail SMTP the default (primary) SMTP server. I don't have my iPad with me so I can't check and let you know exactly where to look.
