Missing App Store icon on Apple TV gen 4 and it won't restore to factory settings

Hello,

I hooked up Apple TV gen 4 (not 4K version) and I wanted to add some apps but the Apple App Store icon is missing. I read online that some have had luck by resetting the device back to factory settings by doing a reset. I figured this although inconvenient was a reasonable course of action since I found no other way to resolve this problem.

Well I did both a restore and a reset in the Apple TV menu and wen it booted back up all the apps were still there and the App Store icon was still missing. I performed this sequence 3 times and got the same results.

I need some help to resolve this so I can use the Apple Tv in my entertainment room and add the apps I want. How do I fix this problem?

Thanks,

Barry

The 3rd Gen was discontinued in 2016, with the last update being in December of that year. That model also ships with an aluminum remote, which is vastly different from the Siri remote that comes with the 4th Gen.

As I said that model does not run apps. It simply has “channels” which are made available via server. Nothing is stored on the device so there is nothing for a user to add or delete. Providers have also started to drop support for the older models.

Discussions of modifcations to the software can to be discussed here and you would be doing so at your own risk.

The best you you could do would be to see if they support airplay via the IOS app. Otherwise you would need a current model to have access to the App Store.
