Update from High Sierra to Mojave problems

I have just tried updating to Mojave again. And again, without success.

I left it installing all yesterday and overnight, but when I found it hadn't installed this morning, checked in the launchpad, and I got an 'update to High Sierra' graphic/link. I already have that OS installed.

But when I clicked on it, this window came up, and essentially froze.

The icon is now appearing in the dock, so I'll try that.

In your first post under the screenshot you have posted your version of High Sierra as being 10.13.1, I think you may have better success if you updated High Sierra to its last version 10.13.6 before attempting to install Mojave.

Download this, Download macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Combo Update once downloaded double-click to install.

It is also important to remember if you are going to be downloading large files like installers or updaters to have your Mac connected to your router by cable rather than wifi, this will ensure you have a faster more robust connection. Once you have downloaded Mojave, and before you start the installation process look in your Applications folder for Install mcOS Mojave.app.

Copy this over to an external drive or USB stick and keep it safe, the one in the Applications folder self deletes once Mojave is installed. Having the copy is handy incase you need to reinstall or want to install it on another Mac and don't want to go through the tedium of having to download again.

Hi Madugu702

I'm not sure if you're still having trouble updating to Mojave, and if that's your question.

I followed Eau Rouge's advice (17th January), as follows, and it worked beautifully. However, I neglected the final step of copying the install Mojave from Applications onto a USB stick...that would be handy.

So I'd recommend you do that.

Also, check that you have latest version (which Eau Rouge points out) and update if necessary. I didn't, so followed that step before downloading and installing Mojave. So here are the steps I followed.

Good luck....

But the way, I also restarted in Safe Mode at one point, and that made all the difference. See https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201262

Hi,

I've only just found my way back to here...

I tried the Safe Mode method, and couldn't find any issues.

So opened the App Store and follow your directions.

However, unformatatley it stopped downloading part way through.

I've tried repeating this a couple of times...

But also deleted the app first (another suggestion given to another persona with a smilier question) and began again.

Nothing at all is working, so I've stopped. I think the furthest the download reached was about 1GB before it simply stopped.

So, thank you for your help, but I think my frustration levels have been exceeded and I'll stay with High Sierra for a while longer.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Thank you so much Eau Rouge. Lots of helpful advice here.

I hadn't realised my recent update to High Sierra didn't include 10.13.6, as I only installed a couple of weeks ago. So I'll do that now.

But the other really important issue which you've raised - and I should have considered - is connectivity. We live in a very large old stone home with a wifi network. So I don't have a cable connection anywhere near my office. So I may well need to look at that, even if it means actually moving my iMac to the other end of the house to update and install!

Of course, I may find that all I need is to update to 10.13.6! :)

I have followed your advice and moved my iMac to the router and connected with cable to update and install

However, now when I start it/turn my iMac on and try to login, I get a string of ‘letters’, with a repetitive and rapid sound of lets being typed. And of course the login is incorrect.

I type in the alpha numeric code (8 characters) and get multiple - which of course appear as dots.

I’ve shut it down and also restarted a number of times, but get the same results when trying to login.
