iPad keyboard position

Recently when I bring up the keyboard it appears in the middle of the screen, not at bottom where it used to be. As a result I can't see what I'm typing

Tap and hold on the “hide keyboard” key. Select Dock. You can see an illustration of the key here: https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/use-a-split-keyboard-ipad997da62f/ios
