Cups Driver Printer Instance

Hi there,

I have tried to create a printer instance in cups by using comand sudo lpoptions -p Zebra_GLS/Zebra180 -o orientation-requested=6 to create an instance of Printer Zebra_GLS (printer name) called Zebra180, which has 180 degrees rotation of pdf to be printed by default as the main instance Zebra_GLS is printing upside down... At least neither the instance Zebra180 nor any other change shows up in the printing menu when going to print the selected pdf - e.g. in Acrobat Reader or any other software.

Can anybody help out here?

Here is the solution provided by the CUPS driver developer and works fine for me - thank you so much:

lpadmin -p printername -o orientation-requested-default=6

I alredy know about this but thank you for replying at all. My problem is the following: I have installed a printer which is doing fine in the network and any client can use it. But the documents are all upside down. So I have tried to create an instance of this printer with default settings orientation-requested=6 as a pre-setting or like default. At least this is the only thing I want to do: rotate the document in the printer settings by 180 degrees. The windows printer driver for same printer has this option to select or unselect. But who wants to use windows. So I am trying to figure out where I can preset this value in CUPS. In the printing-GUI while going to print I can only select landscape or portrait but not 180 degrees.

Thanks for your reply and that seems to be exactly the problem. But at least I am wondering if the used comand "sudo lpoptions -p Zebra_GLS/Zebra180 -o orientation-requested=6" will have any result or effect at all. I found this in the cups documentation. But it does not create a printer instance - or I can not see it - called Zebra180. Does this command does not work at all or am I doing something wrong......?

While studying this I will set up the same printer on our old OSX-Servers and share the printer in the network instead of installing them manually. But I do not expect this will work. As stated in the hint shown by your link the files have to be in the usr - directory. So I expect we can share the printer in the network based on an old server OS with old cups but while printing on the client it will refer for setting to the file in the usr - directory = local service settings.

If it works I will post here.....

I think same but I least I can not find any effect after that command - I expected the new instance as a new printer in CUPS but can not find anything like that. And now I tried the old Mac Server OS which has still CUPS 1.4.7 - haha - but it is the same problem over there. It is still upside down independent from printing locally form server or via client through (same) shared printer with server settings.
