I want an external harddisk to be formatted so that MacOS X and Windows 10 can access all files (read and write). What formatting do I need?

One option is to format the drive as ExFAT.
Format as ExFAT.

As I once migrated from Windows XP(a lifetime ago!) to MacOSX -for obvious reasons- I am not so familiar with the Windows environment. What I remember was that FAT had a limit on the disk size. Does that still apply to the ExFAT as well?
