Homepod can no longer reach Wemo plug, but iPhone is fine.

I set up a couple of WeMo plugs. At first, it was nice! I could use Siri to control the plugs from both my iPhone -AND- my HomePod. I could say "Hey Siri. Turn on the lamp." And the lamp would turn on.

The iPhone still works.

But a couple days after I set all this up, the HomePod now responds with something like "Checking...I tried, but a device didn't respond."

I unplugged and re-plugged the WeMo to restart it. After it restarted, the iPhone still works. But the HomePod still says the device doesn't respond.

They should all be on the same home network, so I find it odd that the HomePod has stopped being able to connect when the iPhone can still control the plugs.

I may have just answered my own question, but maybe it will help someone else.

I have a mesh WIFI network with 3 routers around the house. I think the router in that particular room was malfunctioning. Once I unplugged that router, everything is as expected again!

Strange that the WeMo app was still working. It seems that the latest routers are getting too smart for themselves with auto channel allocation etc. Maybe dumber/older devices like WeMo switches are unable to keep up and lose connection sometimes. So it may be an intermittent problem that solves itself.

I tried replacing two Time Capsule wifi stations with an Orbi "mesh" a few months ago and had big problems with some devices. I gave up and reverted to the TCs and all is sweet again (but I have the TCs set to fixed channels)
