Garageband Piano lesson sound problem?

Hi all,

Being primarily a guitarist, I decided over Christmas to brush up on my piano skills and try the Garageband piano lessons.

All is great to start with but I'm experiencing a problem with my own playback through midi keyboard - halfway through a lesson my own sound turns from a clear piano to a squelchy distorted version.

The only way to reset this is to fully restart Garageband.

I've looked in all the settings and preferences I could find but still the problem persists - any ideas please?

Ok, so I contacted Focusrite and this was part of their response:

"If this issue does not occur when just using a basic keyboard track in the main Garageband window, then I suspect this issue may be related to the extra CPU resource the Piano Learn section of Garageband needs. I don't believe this issue is related to the Saffire Pro 24 DSP itself since all other audio sounds fine and it is only when using the Piano Learn section of Garageband that causes this to happen."

I know about Activity monitor on the Mac - would this be the easiest way to check this?

Also would there be any way of re-routing CPU burden?

Thanks!

Ok, so I'm running OSX 10.13.6 and Garageband 10.3.2.

I have my Fatar Studiologic keyboard attached via the midi on my Focusrite Saffire Pro DSP 24 firewire sound card.

In Logic and Garageband this issue does not occur, but when I load a piano lesson in Garageband, I can play along with it for a while and my piano sounds great but shortly in I get this horrible distorted piano sound.

I repeat this does not happen when I run a Garaband project with keyboard input.

Please?

Any ideas?

Further on, I finally seem to have found the problem but have no idea how to fix it or why it is happening.

Working through all the options I finally decided to install a midi monitor utility and there it is!

When the piano sound from my keyboard goes weird is when the midi changes from Note On/Off messages to

"Modulation Wheel (coarse)"

As I said this only happens during the piano lessons in Garageband.

Can anyone fathom why this would be happening and how I'd go about fixing it?

Many thanks!
