What does this text bubble mean??

I was typing my friend the other day, and for this one moment he was typing, the little text box on his side that’s usually grey and contain three dots was black and had a heart and a hand?

He has an older iPhone, but I’ve never seen this before so I doubt it’s to do with the iPhone product.

Can someone explain to me what it is? What it means?
