Photos on iPhone do not appear on my MacBook Pro
On your iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos, then turn on iCloud Photos.
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud. Click Options next to Photos, then select iCloud Photos.

When you go to iCloud here do the photos show up?

If you want to sync photos between your phone and the MBP the simplest way to do this is via PhotoStream. You can do this with or without also storing them in iCloud. Depends how much you want to pay for iCloud storage.
