I need to install the Tinker software on my MacBook, but I'm not sure how. There is an installer kit available, but it is a .sit file. I have Stuffit Expander, but I'm not sure how to open it with it since I didn't have this file previously saved. The installer kit is: tinker4.2-macosx.sit
How can I open this on my computer? I have the latest version of iOS.

You do see the version number on the page you linked is 8.5? tinker4.2-macosx.sit will never install in Mojave. It's for OSX 10.3.

To my knowledge, the software is old and there are no "newer" versions available.

I recommend you uninstall Stuffit Expander. It is extremely old and anything that requires it should be avoided. Its presence may prevent macOS's built-in DiskImageMounter utility from functioning, which could explain the reason you're having trouble installing "Tinker".
Unclear what exactly you are trying to install. Do you have a link to the file? The closest I could find is tinker-4.3.tar.gz which is 8+ years old. There are newer versions but I don't even know if it's the same software you are referring to.
