Sound Input

Can I use the sound output jack to record audio on a Macbook Air. Cannot just audio to input in preferences. Am attempting to record old cassettes.

Macbook audio input I often record audio to my mac book from a 4 channel mixing board that i would plug in through the 3.5mm trs jack but now out of nowhere my mac doesn't want to recognize the input channel, only output? i've tried every trick in the book and i'm out of luck.. i just find it weird that it used to read it as both input and output but now only output..? anyone know something to fix it??

MacBook: how to record line-in via audioport I remember having recorded my piano by feeding the line out into my MacBook (2017) "headphone" jack, the only one available. However, when I attempt now, I don't find a way. If I view "Input" in "Sound" in "System Preferences" I only have one device, "Internal Microphone". According to this (old) video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcm49M28lSI there should be an option for "Use audioport for:" but to my best ability I don't have that option. How do I record line-in via the audio port? What has changed in Mac OS on this front? (considering I a year ago succeeded at recording with this machine.)

cassette to macbook pro, tape deck not recognized? So, I have old tapes of family music and other recordings on cassette tape, and I want to digitize on the macbook pro, running Catalina. I don't like itunes, so I downloaded audacity, planning to use that instead. I'm coming off of the tape deck with the RCA style connection, going into an 'audio grabber connection' I got off Amazon like this; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CBGDST/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which is supposed to convert for usb connection into the macbook. So far, so good. Now,...I go to System Preferences, and set up input for USB PnP Audio Device, which is my only choice other than the built in mic;

Sound output is not an input. This won't work. Only input the Air has is the Microphone.

They never made drivers for the Mac or support it. But it works. You'll need something similar. Connect the cassette recorder to the line in and you should be able to record your tapes. Below you'll see the options I have with my sound card when it comes to recording stuff.
