Tonight I’ve had problems with the Weather Channel app crashing immediately after launching. My OS is up to date on both units. I focused on the iPad first and deleted and reinstalled the Weather Channel app but it still does it. Any suggestions on what may be the problem?

Did you try this after deleting the app? : Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
It did happened on my iPhone XS, but deleting the app and reinstalling it works.
iPhone running iOS 12.1.2.
It didn't have the same issue on my iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2nd generation and iPad Pro 12.9 inch 3rd generation running on iOS 12.1..
Reinstalling the Weather Channel app on my iPad Pro 10.5" with iOS 12.1.1 did not solve the problem.
Reinstalling the Weather Channel app on my iPhone 8 with iOS 12.1.2 did not solve the problem.
Seems odd as it only started being a problem this evening on both devices.
Running fine on iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 both on iOS 12.1.2.
