restore new phone from back up with new apple id?

Is it possible to restore a new iphone with a new apple id, from a back up of a phone with a different apple id (and not lose anything)? Long story, but basically my wife has been linked to my apple id for some time, and now has a new phone so now seems a sensible time to 'uncouple' her from my apple id as this creates issues with storage capacity etc.

thanks for any help/advice!

To restore the backup, you will need the old ID to access the backup. Once restored, you can use the new ID.

There may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. Also set up Family Sharing to keep access to your apps/purchases. Also see Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion
