Mail signature problems

I have added a new mail signature and cancelled a few older ones. This is okay for 24 hours or so & then when I open mail the new sig has disappeared & the old ones are back. No idea why or how to deal with his. Annoying, however.

Whew! There are some more Mail things that start with com.apple.mail in...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Containers

Not sure what all they do.

Did we ever try this?

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

So I now have moved the old sig files back into the Library from the desktop, edited the sigs down to the 4 I want to have, added one new one & will see what happens. If the pattern stay constant, they'll be okay today & will have disappeared (or reverted to the old settings) by tomorrow.

Actually I realized this probably wasn't a matter of time. So I rebooted & yes, as feared, after the reboot the signatures had reverted to the old ones — all my alterations/additions had disappeared. Back to square one.

Apple figured we didn't have enough to do, they hid that folder...

Unhide the Library Folder, the Apple Way

There's another way to access the hidden Library folder without having to make use of Terminal, which has the side effect of revealing every hidden file on your Mac. This method will only make the Library folder visible, and only for as long as you keep the Finder window for the Library folder open.

  1. With either the desktop or a Finder window as the frontmost application, hold down the option key and select the Go menu.

  2. The Library folder will be listed as one of the items in the Go menu.

  3. Select Library and a Finder window will open showing the contents of the Library folder.

  4. If you close the Library folder's Finder window, the folder will once again be hidden from view.

Access the Library the Easy Way (OS X Mavericks and later)

If you're using OS X Mavericks or later, you have the easiest way of all to permanently access the hidden Library folder. This is the method we use, and we recommend it for anyone who wants permanent access and isn't worried about accidentally modifying or deleting a file from the Library folder.

  1. Open a Finder window and navigate to your Home folder.

  2. From the Finder menu, click View > Show View Options.

  3. Place a checkmark in the box labeled Show Library Folder.

So to check after I placed the two files on my desktop, removing them from the Library, I closed the mail application, then reopened it. Now there are no more signatures at all available, i.e. none are clickable in an email & when I open the Mail preferences, there are no more sigs in there at all. Does this mean that I now have to start recreating sigs?
