Q: VERIFICATION REQUIRED

I've had my apple tv for a few years. I just started getting this message...

"VERIFICATION REQUIRED. Before you can make purchases, you must go to the iTunes store on your computer and verify your payment information."

I've updated my payment info in iTunes on my laptop, as well as signed out and back into the apple tv.
Nothing works.

Any ideas????

Better to return it if still within the return period.

No. Everything is fine on the store and the computer but the AppleTV has lost its mind.

Open iTunes, go to the iTunes store, open your payment info, clear out your credit card info and REENTER the entire credit card number AND the credit card security number on the back of the card. Worked great for me. Problem solved.

Ok, I have 2 APTV's that are synced to same itunes account and has been this way for well over a year. My problem is: the apple tv in the media room EVERY time we go to watch a movie I get the error "verify account info" or something to that effect. I then have to go to my PC which is downstairs, I exit my itunes account> sign back in and all is good. Itunes sees my APTV's fine- its the account verification that is the pain. Any work arounds?

    Thxs

This same issue was happening to me on my 1st gen ipod touch. Whenever i tried getting a free, or paid, app, it would say the verification required message. When i went in and went to the change payment information, there was red text above saying that I needed to verify information. All I did was click on the type of credit card and the red text went away. I then put in the security code, and clicked done. And now it works. I only downloaded one app, so not sure if this is a permanant fix or not, but it worked right away for me. Hope this helps...

100% correct. I reset the payment information and Apple TV works fine now. Bought it yesterday and just set it up....very frustrating that Apple don't list this in the trouble shooting pages as it must happen quite a bit ...... I could purchase movies via Mac, which you would think confirmed the payment information was correct. Thanks again.

Guys - (especially those of you getting all aerated about this!) - It's a simple case of Apple updating their security and authentication - this happens reasonably regularly and is done to stop people hijacking your apple account - it's a pain the first time it happens but it's really not a big enough deal to go throwing perfectly good tech in the trash!

Simply do as suggested in a few posts here - open iTunes on a computer and log in to your Apple Profile. choose "Edit Payment Information". You'll need to enter the security code off the back of your credit card into the (empty) box and click "done" - this acts as verification of your payment details.

You'll immediately be able to buy stuff on your Apple TV again - end of.

this worked for me. my apple tv was brand new yesterday and I think it wanted me to verify my 3 digit code on the back of my credit card.

YOU have to enter your pin from the credit card again, because every time the new device is sent to your account you have to do this

    Thanks, that worked.
Maybe it's because the security code doesn't get saved.

I had this same problem. Just go into itunes and review your payment information. Something is wrong like an expired credit card (my case) or some digit of your credit card number.

Well I have just spent 4 hours trying to buy a movie from appletv. I can not imagine a company with no better tech support than them (wait 48 hours for a response) being in business for the long run. They may have some cool stuff but this kind of service *****. I'll try what you guys suggested but I am not going to hold my breath! Thanks
