Final Cut Pro X Sharing stuck at 0%

Hi, I bought Final Cut Pro X yesterday and I finished a project.

I clicked on share -> Master File as I did with the trial version that I used previously.

I waited for at least 30 minutes and it's just stuck at "Transcoding" and not moving at all. It's a really small project, so it should be relatively fast.

I tried restarting my macbook and resetting the FCPX preferences, but the outcome is the same.

I would appreciate some suggestions as to how to fix this issue. Since I only bought it yesterday, I have the latest version of FCPX installed.

Thank you and kind regards,

Christian

The drive is connected via the Apple USB dongle. It's formatted with the HFS Plus filesystem and encrypted.

I tried copy-pasting to a new project, but it didn't make a difference. I tried rendering an other project which has its source files on my internal ssd and it works just fine, so somehow the external drive must be the problem. Final cut has no issues loading, displaying and working with the files from the drive though, so I don't see why it causes a problem with rendering...

I switched background rendering off, not sure what you mean by "Delete Generated files optimized and render files", could you explain?

Also what sort of specifications are you looking for in regards to the project? Sorry if I sound like a beginner, I'm literally just getting to know the program. The project is set to 1080p resolution, 30 frames per second, exporting with the H.264 Codec. The system is a Macbook Pro, Late 2016, MacOS 10.14. The media clips are all filmed in mov format, at 1080p 30fps.
