Removing Bing divert malware from my mac

I picked up some sort of malware a couple of weeks ago on my MacBook Air. Every time I clicked on a Google search in Safari, the malware kicked in and sent me to Bing. This malware even infected Firefox and Chrome on my laptop. I tried following all the suggestions I could find on line to get Bing out of Safari with no luck.

Just wanted to share a mate suggested I try one of the free malware removal programs and hey presto! It worked!!! I chose Malwarebytes and it actually picked up and Quarantined a pageful of threats that the software I paid for did not detect.

Love my Apple and love the guys that wright the free software. I thought I should let people know what worked since there seem to be lots of queries in the search engines about this.
