I finished creating a book and i can't order it because it says I need the latest version of photos
I have 1.5 but there doesn't seem to be any way to do it. App store says I don't have any updates waiting.
I have OS x el capitan 10.11.6
How can I update photos?
Apple is no longer offering print services. The newest version simply refers you to a third party printer.
Updates of Photos come with Operating system updates. To get the latest Photos you need Mojave.
Thanks, that pointed me to the problem. My iMac is too old to upgrade to Mojave.

Are you able to create a PDF file for that book? If so there's a 3rd party book provider which used to do the printing for Apple, Mimeo, that will take PDF files created by iPhoto and Photos and print and bind books and calendars.
Also you can upload the PDF file to PrestoPhotos which can print and bind books and calendars from iPhoto or Photos pdf files. They've been doing it for some time now.
Use the PrestoPhotos or Mimeo links above for direct access to the PDF file uploading and book/calendar ordering page for each site.
You might consider taking out the hard drive from your iMac before taking it into Apple for recycling. You can use it in a drive dock from MacSales.com for additional storage. I have the two drives, an SSD and a HDD, from my 2011 iMac in such a dock:
They are only $30 with USB 3 connectivity (NewerTech Voyager).
