Apple Watch - disablities

Hi. I’m looking to purchase Apple Watch however I use crutches to walk mainly and I like the idea of the steps but would the Apple Watch count my steps when I use my crutches?

I also use a wheelchair chair at least once a week so I know the Apple Watch can work with wheelchair rolls as steps but would I be able to switch back to crutches if I had set up the wheelchair rolls setting? Usually in school is when I’m up and about but I still use my crutches mainly to get around so I was wondering if anyone knew if it’s possible that I still can get my steps in via using my crutches. I properly walk with the crutches, I don’t walk with one leg up like you’d expect if a person is on crutches.

i was also wondering if you can set a level to the activities in workout app and activity goals? Sometimes exercise involve balance and mine isn’t great so that worry’s me that I won’t be able to get much use out of the fitness end of the Apple Watch.

If you have any ideas or if someone from Apple who could help, please reply 🤞

Many thanks!

Well using crutches your hands move back and forth? So as the Watch detects movement it will record it. You might not walk as fast but you are still walking. The excercise minutes will be harder to achieve as it based on heart rate as well as other information. Ta

This from the Apple site. A would class a brisk walk, as rapid quick paced walk. Ta

Make sure that you earn Move and Exercise credit

Every full minute of movement that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk counts toward your daily Exercise and Move goals. For wheelchair users, this is measured in brisk pushes. Any activity below this level counts only toward your daily Move goal.

To make sure that you earn Exercise credit during walks, allow the arm with your Apple Watch to swing naturally. For example, while walking your pet, let the arm with your watch swing freely while the other holds the leash.

If you need both hands while walking, for example to push a stroller, you can still earn Exercise credit with the Workout app. Open the app on your Apple Watch and tap Outdoor Walk. The Activity app relies on arm motion and an accelerometer to track movement, but the Workout app can use the accelerometer, the heart rate sensor, and GPS.
