LG sp80nb80 slim dvd drive will not mount in Mojave 10.14.2

I want to burn a FCPx movie I created to a dvd. When first connect this usb drive, it powers up and asks the question what would I like to do. After making my choice, the drive no longer is powered and although I can see it in Finder and FCPX, it is not mounted and therefore I cannot burn the movie project.

To create a playable DVD for my movie, the requirement was to go to the share menu in FCPX and choose DVD. Otherwise, coping or burning a created movie file onto a dvd is simply copying file data that will not play in a DVD player. Because the LG will not mount, when I choose the dvd icon in FCPX, it does not select it and defaults to iCloud. Disk Utility sees the drive and says S.M.A.R.T. is not supported, so perhaps that is why it will not mount.
