How do I stop FCPX from opening sub-folders when searching for material to import?

I'm a professional photographer/videographer. Whenever I need to import material into FCPX, it opens EVERY SUB-FILE IN EACH MAIN FILE OR DRIVE! This is HORRIBLE. Right now it is taking hours to search and create entries for thousands of clips and images and everything. Those things are in SUB-FOLDERS on my Desktop, but FCPX INSISTS on opening every sub-folder! I don't want it to look there, that's why I created the sub-folders in the first place! How can I make it stop? Many thanks for all assistance.
