Amazon website crashes Safari and locks-up my Mac

HI all,

I know the answer is to buy a newer laptop. BUT until then can anyone help please with this issue which was first reported in this site around since 2014.

I'm running OX X El Capitan (10.11.6) and Safari 9.1.2 (11601.7.7) on a MacBook (13-inch, Aluminium, Late 2008)..as I said time to upgrade..but with 8Gigs RAM and 1Tb SSD it does all I ask it to do.

Safari works without a problem until I visit the Amazon..co.uk (or .com) home page then it locks up the browser and the MacBook. The only input which responds is the mouse cursor which I can move around. To do anything I too perform a hard reset the MacBook. Visiting the Amazon site in Chrome is fine. And I have no issues on my 2017 iMac running 10.14.2.

If anyone can help, thanks.

Cheers

David

Hi MrHoffman,

Thanks for your reply. No adware, AV or other software installed. All browser add-ons disabled...Rebooted in safe mode and ... it IS OK on the Amazon homepage advertising Top Gear on the UK site.

I've reinstalled Mac OXS and there are no Safari extensions installed, and has the same issues with my wife's log-in. New software update Safari 11.1.2. has "just" become available !!!, rebooked and seems to have gone. Why it wasn't made available before hand is beyond me :-/

Try running this program in your normal user account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Remove f-secure, macpaw cleanmymac, maccheck, maintain, adguard, trusteer, malware bytes, micromat, apptamer, ah, nevermind, given that list and given Gatekeeper is disabled, just back up externally, back up externally again, wipe, and reinstall. Reload apps from known-good distribution kits, migrate just your docs, don’t disable Gatekeeper, and—if you absolutely desire the warm fuzzies of software that really can’t prevent loading junk onto a Mac—load one anti-malware package. I’m mildly surprised this Mac even boots.

Thank you for your helpful reply. Ive attached the generated report. I would point out that back in 2014 on this community forum there was a similar issue report over the Yosemite and the Amazon website, Ive not found the issue with another site and the site behaves itself using Chrome. I'm aware that the battery will soon need replacing.

Thanks again

David

The only program listed which is installed is malware bytes. The remaining may have been installed at sometime over the last 10 years and since removed. Etresoft appears to be picking up on the rubbish left behind once an app has been removed, plist entries etc. What I really need is an app that removes traces of all once installed applications. The MacBook by-the-way runs just fine for a 10 year old :) . Thanks again.
