I got a security email from apple telling me to click to authenticate, so I started, which included entering my ssn# and now asking for my credit card info. Is this real?

No. Forward it to reportphishing@apple.com as an attachment and then delete it.
Apple won't ask customers for their SSN except when verifying their identity for Apple Pay Cash.
