The model number you indicate does not specify which series you have; the A1278 was used
in both 'MacBook' 13-inch and some 'MacBook/Pro' 13-in & other builds. For better definition
you'd also need to supply identifiers as sales order number, EMC #, and for your own use to
reference a Serial Number: use lookup service or Apple Support article to correctly define.
Please supply a clearer identification of your product using technical information.
An Apple Support article says MacBook Pro, may be of some help:
•Identify your MacBook Pro model - Apple Support
MacBook Pro models are organized by the year they were introduced, starting
with the most recent. Click the model name for detailed technical specifications.

• Lookup Mac Specs By Serial Number, Order, Model & EMC Number ...
Because there are 12 MacBook and MacBook Pro models that match the A1278 model
number, you may wish to lookup yours by Model ID or Serial Number for greater precision.

The earlier MacBook and latest MacBook use same name but differ in build technologies.
Part numbers, build year version numbers, (such as MacBook1.1 13-in Early 2006, etc) help.
• Mac Serial Number Info - Lookup your Apple Serial Number

Everymac site & mactracker.ca database app offer these numbers in their correct perspective.
Your MacBook or MacBook Pro build year model may be able to upgrade to later macOS
but not the last one, the internal technical specs likely would limit useful aspects of later OS.
The next Mac OS X above 10.10 Yosemite ~ is 10.11.6, El Capitan; see info on that & later, here:

It really doesn't matter whether you have a MacBook or a MacBook Pro, as both model A1278s can upgraded to 10.11.6.
Note that 10.10.x is no longer available. Also, the last "update" for Yosemite was 10.10.5.
MacBook does not run iOS? I don't think even with hacks you can run iOS on it, unless it's via iPhone simulator on Xcode?
