will akg headphones connect via bluetooth to macbook air?

Without knowing which model you have, it's impossible to give a definitive answer, but definitely don't bother asking AKG - they won't know. So, asking the manufacturer in this case might well be of no use - I tried it.

My recent experience is that AKG N700NC headphones will connect without any problems to an iPhone X and a 6th Gen iPad (both running iOS 12.1.4)

They will not connect to my Late-2012 27-inch iMac nor to my Early-2015 12-inch MacBook (both running macOS 10.14.3). Although the headphones connect by Bluetooth, they disconnect as soon as they receive a sound signal and then continue to reconnect and disconnect repeatedly without playing any sound.

When asked, AKG offered no solution.

A weekend of research threw up all the usual solutions (trash the Bluetooth prefs, reset Bluetooth, etc, etc) and I tried them all but nothing works. For the time being, then, it seems the answer is, "Some AKG headphones might work, but the specific model I have doesn't."
