MacBook Pro High Sierra Airdrop not working.....

Your mac is only compatible with Mac-to-Mac airdrop, like mine.

AirDrop system requirements

To share between a Mac and an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you need any of these devices and operating systems:

• Mac from 2012 or later (excluding the mid-2012 Mac Pro) using OS X Yosemite or later 
• iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 7 or later

To share between Mac computers, both computers must be one of these models:

• MacBook Pro introduced in late 2008 or later, excluding the MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2008)
• MacBook Air introduced in late 2010 or later
• MacBook introduced in late 2008 or later, excluding the white MacBook (Late 2008)
• iMac introduced in early 2009 or later
• Mac mini introduced in mid 2010 or later
• Mac Pro introduced in early 2009 (model with AirPort Extreme card) or mid 2010
• iMac Pro (all models)

Use AirDrop on your Mac - Apple Support

Turn Bluetooth (BT) on

Hold Option key and click on BT symbol in the top bar

It shows send file to Device or Browse Device (you should see your other devices)

Reset BT

Hold Shift and Option than click on BT icon

Choose Debug > Reset

Did you turn on Bluetooth and is it working ?

Search airdrop in spotlight search.

Or your Mac probably doesn’t support airdrop.

AirDrop is limited to the space (people) around you, at maximum 100 feet (30meter) range.

correct; however, you said you got a new MBP?

It doesn't matter that it’s running High Sierra. The older WiFi cards are only compatible with Mac-to-Mac airdrop. And the even older WiFi cards aren’t compatible with airdrop at all.
