Is there a way to merge an old Apple / iTunes account with a my new / current account ?

I used to have an Apple / iTunes account years ago, however I couldn't even begin to remember what the ID nor password were, so I created a new account.  However, it had completely slipped my mind until I had gone into the iTunes Store that I had made quite a few paid purchases when I had my old account.  So I was wondering if there is any way to merge my current account with my old one in order to regain that purchased material.
