Mail app on Mac book pro

How can I erase the mail app and all contents on my Mac? I never use it. But I just realized that it has every email I ever had in some folders. Going back to 2012. I read online that it is somehow connected with my gmail. I have no idea really why I need it. I have 8 g left on my Mac. On the storage graph I have 120 gig. My breakdown is 4 g pics

2 g vids, another 4 gig on something else I can’t remember. But I have 95gig in OTHER!!

So I’ve been deleting emails from the email app and I swear I’m slowly gaining space. In one folder called archives. I had 12,000 emails going back to 2012. I mean WHY ??

MY QUESTION IS VAN I JUST ERASE TJAT ENTIRE APP? Will it harm my real mail? I have a separate gmail app or I go on google.

Please help!!!

Thanks
