Listerine killed my screen (staingate fix)

My 2015 MBP 13 started to get heavy staingate, i live on an island in the middle of nowhere so getting it to an apple store was not an easy option, so i opted for the Listerine scrub fix, it worked as far as removing the coating, but it created huge stains on the screen :(

is it worth removing the screen protector glass to clean under or is it permanently damaged ?

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test / get an official assessment a go from there.

Pretty sure you damaged the entire screen. Only option now will be to replace the entire top lid + screen, which will cost about $450 -+ for a replacement display off some websites, or about $699US -+ from Apple to replace it for you. You can also sell it for parts and get a new computer if you prefer that option. Sorry to hear about your situation, hope you get it sorted out!

I have never heard of Listerine as a solvent for the screen coating, and do not recommend it to anyone, ever.

If you have managed to remove ALL of the coating, some Users got relief by installing matte-finish screen protector film. Installing this film is very fussy work, because you WILL trap minuscule dust and debris particles under it as you install it. Only you can decide how much is tolerable, and whether to back up and remove something, or press on to completion.

That guy just opens the bottle and pours the bulk liquid out on the screen.

Never, EVER, EVER pour bulk liquids anywhere near your Mac. If you must use any liquids (and Apple only ever recommends a little water) you pour it onto the cloth, make sure the cloth is merely damp and is not saturated, then rub your Mac with the damp cloth.

YouTube has no one minding the store. Complete nonsense stays up there forever, regardless of merit.

With newspapers and books, someone has to pay to print it, and has a reputation to defend.

Had the same problem on my 15 " macbook pro, late 2013. Within the 4 years of extended apple care, the screen was replaced one time without costs. 1 year later, after a 3 week storage of my macbook, in closed position, staingate was back....%$#&. The extended apple care replacement program was past its closure date. Apple did not want to replace the screen again. Staingate got more intense in time, mostly ad the edges of the screen and, in closed postion opposite the keyboard. After reading all online experience with staingate, I started rubbing the screen with medicinal alcohol 70%, After some intermittent hours of rubbing some 90% of the anti-glare was gone. The anti-glare opposite the metal parts around the keyboard were the most hard to remove. Very frustrating. Then I tried listerine. It took care of the rest. Now the screen is fine, although I miss the anti-glare effect. I suppose I have to stick an anti-glare film. My advies to others having the same type of screen is not to close your laptop, because the keyboard somehow, seems to enhance staingate problems.
