Audiobooks only play once in iTunes

Once I've listened to an audiobook or an audiobook chapter in iTunes, I can't play it again. How do I fix this?

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I see no one has responded to your post yet. Here are a couple of things that might help others answer your question.


When you say you can't play an audiobook again, what exactly is happening?


Is the audiobook seemingly missing from library, or does it give you an error message? If you get an error what does it say?


Which macOS version are you using?

We appreciate that follow-up.


When you let an audiobook play all the way through and the issue occurs, what action do you have to take to be able to play the same audiobook again? For example, quitting out of iTunes, restarting the Mac, or something else?


It sounds like updating iTunes is a great idea to start: Update to the latest version of iTunes.

Thanks for responding.


I can play an audiobook over and over as long as I don't let it run completely to the end. If I do let it run to the end, it is still in my library, but if I click on it, the title etc briefly appear in the Apple window at the top of the library window, but it disappears in a second. The same occurs if it is highlighted and I click on the "play" arrow.
