Naming clips in imovie

Is there a way to import the name of the clips when the clips are imported? If not , can names be added after they are imported?

Can the files be put into folders?

Hi,

The names of the clips are imported. However, the names are not displayed on the clip itself. If you select the clip in the Library Media Browser, or in an Event, and have enabled View/Skimmer Info, then when you move your cursor over the clip the clip name will appear. In the project timeline, you select the clip and then click on the Information icon (the little circle with an "i" in it) in the tool bar at the top right of your screen. The clip's name will appear just above the viewer screen.

As far as I know, names cannot be added or modified after the clip is imported into iMovie. You can select the clip, do a File/Reveal in Finder, and change the name in the Original Media Folder that pops up. However, if you do that iMovie will no longer be able to find the clip and a question mark will appear in the place of its icon. The clip will be disabled in all projects that use it. So that is not an option.

You can put clips into folders, that are called Events in iMovie. In the Library media browser view, click on the name of your Library in the sidebar and then do File/New Event. A new event will appear in the side bar under the Library's name, bearing the date that the event was created. (You can change that name.) You can import directly into the Event or drag clips from iMovie into the event.
