How to set up auto log in?

I've unlocked User Preferences, selected Login Options and chosen "Automatic Login" but a login window requiring password still appears.

Set your Mac to automatically log in during startup

Note: "You might still be asked to log in manually after logging out, switching back from another user account, or locking your screen."
