Mojave update broke internet access

Two problems. The one I'm less concerned about now is that after upgrading my wife's MBP to Mojave, stuff in MS Office doesn't work. While trying to fix that, I updated Mojave to 10.14.3, hoping this issue would get resolved there. Instead, her internet access is broken. This is now the bigger problem. Anything "web" isn't working, though I can ping out to the internet. Safari, cURL and anything dependent on HTTP isn't working. Because I can ping out, I'm doubtful that it's the wifi config. Everything on this forum regarding Mojave issues and internet says to wipe out the wifi config. I tried connecting to a hard wire, but it won't connect. My work MBP connects just fine, so the wire and thunderbolt adapter are fine. Apparently the 10.14.3 update screwed with the network configuration enough to break HTTP and my Thunderbolt wired connectivity, but ping out through wifi works. I'm stumped. (by the way, I did all the steps to wipe out the wifi config and start fresh...didn't work).

Hi

you are right

you have Internet connection since you can send and receive the Ping signal

However the DNS might be screwed up and that is why you do not get any web sites to work.

Since you sound like someone who knows, please check or set your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google server)

Hey guys, I just got done wiping and doing a clean install of Mojave. Her laptop was probably due for that anyway, but I didn't like being stumped like that. I ran some tcpdump's on the wireless interface en0 and watched DNS requests go out and reply's come back, but no HTTP requests were even trying to go out. Something internal was hosed. I thought about parental control, but it wasn't just web browser HTTP access, it was any application dependent on the HTTP protocol, ie dropbox sync, google sync, etc. I guess that could still be something with Parental Control, but I'm not sure at what level it blocks HTTP. I just assumed it would only block it in the web browser. Anyway thanks for the ideas, but I did the reinstall last night and it's all good. FYI for anyone concerned, a reinstall over the existing installation didn't fix it. I had to wipe and reinstall fresh.

I need help too please, just updated to Mojave 10.14.3 and can’t access internet (iMac), laptops, iPads, iPhones all fine. It connects to wifi but just can’t get internet. It says that my router has wrong country code (but everything else is working and I can’t access the country code), says the DNS Resolution Failure, tried changing to 8.8.8.8 no luck

. Please, can someone help

I assume you are connected to your router. (it shows up in your WiFi)

Now run following test

Open Terminal (in utility folder)

and type

Ping Google.com

You will see something like this if it is working

PING google.com (172.217.8.174): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 172.217.8.174: icmp_seq=0 ttl=55 time=62.955 ms

64 bytes from 172.217.8.174: icmp_seq=1 ttl=55 time=62.087 ms

Press control C to stop it

That will show you if you are actually connected to Internet.
