This article may be more fitting for Safari on your iPod. If it continues to affect only those two websites, you may need to contact the website developers for additional assistance.

The article is informative but I do not own a Mac. I have an iPod Touch. There is nothing in Safari under Settings that I can see that will allow me to make changes for my problem (error 1006, access denied”). Thanks for the input.
The culprit turns out to be my VPN. Once I turn it off, I am able to access the web site.
