(MBP 2018) Desktop Icons Flicker

Hello,

Seemingly another issue with my new/2018 MacBook Pro :(

I get an issue where the icons on the desktop momentarily flicker (seem to reduce in opacity then quickly return). It is so random, and so quick, that it's really hard to put my finger on. It does seem to be related to when memory intensive actions happen, but I'm not super sure.

By appearance alone, it almost looks as if the icons are being reloaded, is this possibly related to my iCloud Drive (which does in fact back up my desktop?) updating these items in the background? It is quick and not terribly frequent, but as a designer, it is a distraction to see my desktop icons flashing on and off in the background.

Suggestions ?? THANK YOU !!!!!!

Max

Hello maxfielfd,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand from your post that your desktop icons sometimes flicker on your MacBook Pro. I am happy to help you with this.

First, let's try an SMC reset. The SMC is responsible for many low-level functions on Intel-based Macs.

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

You may also want to try an NVRAM reset. NVRAM modifies a special group of system settings on the logic board.

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

If you're still experiencing the issue after performing the above tasks, then let's try Safe Mode. Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Let me know how it goes.

Have a great day!
