My wife Sue and I each have our own iMacs and I would like to allow her to transfer files from her iMac to mine. I've "Reset Password..." but no matter what I try, she's not allowed in. We're both on OS X 10.14.2. What am I doing wrong?

Yes my mac appears on her network in Finder, but when she tries 'Connect as Guest' she gets "Access to your... has been denied', and when she tries 'Registered User' and enters the username and password I assigned, it "shakes its head" at her.

No, I was just observing that the failure to login as guest was to be expected, given your settings.
I do not recommend opening up guest access via the network.
Thanks. I had done that and I can we can do what we want through screen sharing, but we'd like to do direct file sharing.
How exactly is it failing? Does your mac not appear under Network? Does it appear but connecting fails? Any error messages?
You need to turn File Sharing on.
Go to System Preferences->Sharing and check the box for File Sharing. Also when you select File Sharing in the list there is an Options... button. I suggest you turn on both afp and smb sharing.
Then your wife should be able to see your mac and connect to it.
You did not allow guest access, so that part is to be expected.
Sorry if I am stating the obvious, but: the password in question has to be the one selected for your wife's account on your mac, not hers (of course this is moot if they are the same).
