iCloud and content merge when sharing ID
I share an Apple ID with my husband...If I backup my iPhone onto iCloud, will it merge out content when I reload everything onto my new phone?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, but if you restore the backup to your new phone, it will restore the data from the old phone. Any data you are syncing to iCloud, will be restored when you sign into Settings/Your Name/iCloud, and turn on the desired syncing. No data will be removed as long as you use the same ID.
