iPhoto library won't sync to iPhone 4

Hi,

iTunes is no longer syncing my iPhoto library to my iPhone 4. Everything was syncing fine when I first got the phone, but, over the past week or so, it's stopped syncing photos.

Now, after attempting to start from scratch by deleting all the photos on my iPhone, iTunes won't sync ANY photos from iPhoto back to my iPhone. I've restarted my phone, computer, etc., force quit all photo-related apps on my iPhone, and tried various combinations of turning iTunes' photo syncing on/off, switching photo sync folders, etc., all to no avail -- I can't get my iPhoto library back on to my iPhone no matter what I do.

Anyone encounter a similar situation? (I've already sent feedback to Apple.) Thanks in advance.

None of the solutions offered here or elsewhere worked for me. In addition to the "empty Photos app" problem, I was having other problems with official Apple apps, such as "Maps," crashing. Finally, I just restored the iPhone 4S as a new phone, without restoring from a backup. This did the trick. I can only conclude that the backup of my old 3G included artifacts that the 4S couldn't deal with. Restoring as a new iPhone may seem like a big deal, but it's not, really. You need to set up your Wifi and sign in to iCloud, and of course lots of other little settings might need to be tweaked, but it's not like you're literally starting from scratch. When you plug your iPhone into your computer, iTunes will reinstall all your apps, music, photos, etc. Unfortunately, your folders will be lost, and it will reinstall apps you had deleted, so if you have a lot of apps, reorganizing them will be the most tedious part of this whole process. Some data might be lost. For example, any bookmarks you made in the Maps app. For me (at least so far) this is no big deal. I'm just happy to not have to worry about crashes and empty Photos folder.

The advice to delete the "iPod Photo Cache" was excellent (for me). I think though, there are other things important too to have this issue resolved (iPhoto photos not syncing with iPhone):

a) Make sure, you don't have more than one "iPod Photo Cache" folders in different locations. I had three (⚠) and deleted all of them as a first step.

b) Connect your iphone to Mac and UNCHECK "Sync Photos from iPhoto" in iTunes/Devices/Photos, then Apply/Sync, so all photos will be deleted from your iPhone.

c) Check, if you still have photos on your iPhone. If all are gone, power off iPhone and reboot.

d) Check "Sync Photos from iPhoto", but if you have thousands of images, I suggest, you only select a few events below, so that you see first, if this works.

Please let me know, if this method helped. One more thing: The above worked for me, I managed to sync nearly 3000 images, after I had mostly empty folders on my iPhone. Still: 1 single photo could not be synced/found, but I can live with that (for now) 🙂

I had this problem and spent over an hour with an upper level tech person. She said the problem was in the way one of my iTunes songs/albums was named [that is with an ampersand, &], and that song was being used for a slide show. It was a really long fix, trial and error, but it finally got done. We had to rename the song, go into tools in iPhoto and choose another song for the slide show, and a LOT of shutting down iPhoto and iTunes, restarting, etc. It took forever. She is reporting it to the higher ups and hopefully the program-writing people so that this can be fixed. I told her there are a LOT of people experiencing this problem and they were in for a lot of tech support time if it is not fixed quickly.

Okay, how's this for simple?

I had the same problem as everyone else. I unchecked "sync photos" and was able to sync everything else to my iPhone 4s. When I went to apply the solution that the orginal poster had suggested I mistakenly double-clicked on the iPhoto Library icon, instead of righ-clicking it. All of a sudden my iPhoto opened up and said that it needed to update my photo library (as it normally does when you upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto). The minute that upgrade was done, iPhoto opened up and offered to sync photos with my iPhone. I went back to iTunes, and re-checked the "sync photos" option, and my phone synced normally (and also gave me the option to select specific photo albums, which had been grayed out before).

I suspect that all along the problem was that the latest iPhoto update had a bug which caused it to not upgrade all of its files properly. I'd be curious to hear if my simpler solution works for others...

I followed a few of the suggestions and something worked.

What I did:
Deleted iPod Photo Cache folder
Updated phone (and the proccess comes with a power-cycle)

Unchecked 'Sync Photos from...' box
Clicked 'Apply'
Re-checked 'Sync Photos from...' box

Selected Albums to sync
Clicked 'Apply'

It's working normally now.

Thanks everyone!
