Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI

Every so often as I try to record my midi keyboard in GarageBand, the audio gets noisy and choppy and I get this error, except the recognized sample rate changes each time. I'm using only the built-in speakers and no external audio devices. A GarageBand update did not fix it, and the problem does not occur when I play exported mp3 tracks. How can I fix this?
