EXCLAMATION POINT WIFI ICON
I can connect to wifi via"Join other networks", however, since the Mohave update, I no longer have the wifi icon and network drop down. I have an exclamation point icon.

It sounds like you're running into some issues with Wi-Fi connectivity. To clarify, are you able to access Safari and other network-connected apps while this is happening?
Generally speaking, the exclamation point you describe is often related to WEP security protocol on your network.
