External microphone with iPhone XS

I have a BOYA BY-MM1 shotgun microphone that I have been trying to get to work with my iPhone XS. Nothing will work! I have the 3.5mm-to-TRRS adapter that connects the microphone to the Apple Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter that connects to the iPhone XS. I have been on CHAT with Apple t see if I am missing some setting etc. to make this work. Nope. YouTube has several people using this with their iPhone X. I wouldn't think that it would be so different. Any advise? Any cures for this? Thanks for reading.

Microphone Use With Ipad Pro I purchased a Saramonic lavalier micorphone that indicated it worked with ipads and iphones. The jack does fit my iphone but NOT my ipad Pro (similar to headphone situation). Is there an adaptor of any type???
