I found a pair of AirPods at work without the case. Can I use them if I buy a case? Or are they just a lost cause?

I found a pair of AirPods at work without the case. Can I use them if I buy a case? Or are they just a lost cause?
My question had nothing to do with where I work nor was that anyone’s business. I asked a simple question that only required a yes or no. If they were traceable through apple then I would have just turned them into an apple store. But I wouldn’t have know that without asking a question.
turning them into the lost and found at my job wouldn’t help the original owner either because anyone could say it’s theirs and then they may ask are they using able or just bring them in.
but I took them into an apple store for the techs to tell me we can’t find the owner without the case so you have a free pair of AirPods lucky you

And I didn’t need to specify what I do in my original post. Because that had nothing to do with my question.
I work outdoors this was a mobile site on a driving route. There is no Lost and found for that.
And to the person that said im not decent for keeping them, who should I turn them into? The various London plain trees?
Yes I do have a supervisor. I told my supervisor about them. They said we have no way to track them down to return them.
I took them to an apple store. They can’t find the owner without the serial/IMEI number. Which is on the case. Which I do not have.
No, but you acted as if everyone should have know you were working out among the trees. I don't believe Airpods have an IMEI number as they do not have a cellular radio. You could have left them with them. Or you could have turned them into the constabulary.
You really should turn them in at your workplace, someone is probably looking for them.
If you are a decent human being, you will turn them in to the lost and found at work.

I work outdoor how can I turn them into a tree?
Please show us in your original post where you specified that.
Do you not have a supervisor on your job? You can also turn them into a law enforcement agency.
