Fast charging specs and requirements iPhone XR

Hi Guys,

i'm looking to get a faster charge for my iPhone.

Does anyone know the limation of charging (eg how many watts the iPhone limit is)

I dont want to spend lots on an adapter (higher wattage) if the iPhone cant take anymore than 18W for example.

thanks!

iPhone XR, 12

the iPhone will regulate the charge anyway so safety isnt really an issue.

Apple recommend https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208137

I've bought an 18W charger with the USB-c to lightning adapter. I've also bought a USB mutlimeter to see what my charge rate is so i'll see from.

I'll probably limit how often I fast charge for the sake of the battery.

Ok guys update.

I bought an 18w charger with Apples USB-c to lightning fast charge cable.

I also got my multimeter and did tests on my current charger with third party “3 in 1” cable and it was crap. I was getting about 2.5w (5v 0.5a)

my 18w charger is giving me about 12.5w of charging power at 21% battery. Though I did note it was charging slower on an older 4 gang extension lead I had only giving me 1a

I’m not sure if this is the highest charge rate an iPhone will charge at. I’m deffo not getting the 18w anyway but I can definitely cope with 12.5w (5v 2.5a) as opposed to my pitiful 2.5w charge.

I was using the old style apple power adapter that only gives out 5v 1a.

hope this is interesting to anyone.

The way you charge your battery if the duration of usage you will get. Meaning you might slightly expect a bit more usage if you change the phone with low wattage charger. Vice versa. When you charge you phone with high wattage charger you push in more power into the battery, you are correct when you said your phone will regulate the wattage because you can definitely charge your phone with a 87W charger, the same charger you charge your laptop with. But that that is not the best thing to do in long term. It's alright using the fast charger now and then when you basically need some extra juice in a mid day for example!

Hope it helps.

cheers!

I think it's more curiosity really.

Do you what what wattage my iPhone will charge up to?

like it wont take in the full 18W?

At the moment my charger is 5W and it takes forever (i'm also using 3rd party cable so cant be helping the situation)

I've got a Samsung charger that says it will charge either 15W or 10W - i'm going to test that tomorrow with my phone on about 10% charge and see how long it takes to charge to 50%.

though according to hhttps://www.apple.com/batteries/why-lithium-ion/

it should fast charge to 80%.

it also follows on to good tips about keeping the battery in the best possible shape https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/
