Mac Cleaner Pro installing itself on my laptops

Mac Cleaner Pro has installed itself on two of my Mac laptops over the last 24 hours. How is this happening? What can I do to prevent this from happening? High Sierra is installed on both machines.

Something you installed put it there. A common source is a fake message from a site you visited saying you needed to update Flash, and offered a download. Those are never Flash, or anything ever close to it. They're always malware or adware.

MalwareBytes for Mac may be able to remove it.

Some recent malware/adware try to make it harder to remove them by being able to fix themselves. So, open the System Preferences. If there's an icon in the bottom row for Profiles, click that to open it. Remove any profiles listed in the left column. A common one put there by garbage software (to try and make it look innocuous) is one called AdminPrefs.
