If I turn off iMessage will I still receive text messages if I have a cellular message plan ?

I have a cellular plan and just want to recieve sms or text messages. What settings do I need to change on my phone. Do I just turn off iMessage or is there someother change I need to do. I don’t have a data plan so can I also keep cellular turned off ?
