Sending in Messages stalls after sending pictures from Photos

When I use the share function in Photos to send an iMessage, the progress bar creeps slowly to about 90 percent before coming to a finite halt. I see the same behaviour when copying a photo from Photos and pasting it in Messages.

I don't see this behaviour when I export a picture from Photos and then pasting it in Messages.

The only remedy I have is to delete the picture from Messages and kill the processes, and start up Messages again.

These problems started with macOS Mojave.

Hello Sytse Hengeveld,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand from the information you provided that you experience a delay when sharing photos; I'd like to help.

Since noticing this behavior, have you had a chance to restart your Mac? This step may seem fairly simple, but it can resolve some issues:

Choose Apple () menu > Restart

If you still have issues after restarting, to help further isolate potential causes for this behavior, I suggest seeing if the errors appear when you restart your Mac in safe mode:

Testing in another user account can also help determine if this may be user or account related settings causing the delay:

Best Regards.
