Cannot Use iPhone Number to Send Shared Album Invitation

Has anyone sent an invitation for a Shared Album sent to an iPhone number that was actually received by the invitee?

Though the iPhone User Guide for iOS 12.1 seems to indicate Shared Album Invitations can be sent by phone number or email, invitations to any type of phone number do not appear to get to the receiver.

Invitations sent to email addresses are received immediately.

Unfortynately, The image below is the ONLY paragraph in the iOS 12.1 User Manual (pp750) related to notification recipients. However, it does not say where the small icon appears — Home screen, app counter, within the Photos app. Apple Support pages don’t clarify it either.

From your iPhone follow this process.

If you have an active Internet connection, and a photo or video has a different number of comments on multiple devices, try these steps.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Close the Photos app. If you're not sure know how to do this, follow these steps.
  2. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
  3. Turn off Shared Albums.
  4. Tap OK. The albums and photos will automatically be added again when you turn this setting back on.
  5. Go back to the Home screen. Wait about a minute.
  6. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
  7. Turn on Shared Albums.
  8. Go back to the Home screen.
  9. Open Photos and tap the Albums tab.
  10. Tap the name of the Shared Album.
  11. Check the comments on the photo or video.

To know how to share a Photo or Photos on Shared album follow the pics below (They are self explanatory)

Madhufromjamshedpur, you obviously spent time in your answer. Unfortunately, you did not address my question. I have successfully set up several shared albums and have been invited to share others.

My question was:

“Has anyone sent an invitation for a Shared Album to an IPHONE NUMBER THAT WAS ACTUALLY RECEIVED by the invitee?”

All the iOS user guides and support documents simply say something like “enter the names of the subscribers you wish to add” or “select the people you wish to invite.” There is no mention of whether to select them by phone numbers or email addresses. There is also no mention of where the Cloud icon in the image in the image on pp 750 of the “iPhone User Guide for iOS 12.1” below.

I am hoping to hear that someone has received an invitation TO HER IPHONE NUMBER and has successfully accepted the invitation, then accessed the Shared Album.

Invitations sent by email go through smoothly and immediately.

Those who wish to Share Albums and those iOS device owners they wish to invite to share need to have the following three settings On.

• Settings>Photos>SharedAlbums

• Settings>DeviceOwner’sName>iCloud>Photos>SharedAlbums

• Settings>Notifications>Photos>SharedAlbums>[Notification Center, Badges or both]
