when pairing. the apple watch asked for an update for the watchos. but my watchos is still watchos1 and when click update on the iphone it says that watchos is up to date and stays stuck like that

So I tried to pair my iPhone 7 to an old Apple Watch I had sitting. The watch still has watchos1 and I tried to pair it. While trying to pair it says that the watchOS needed an update. So I click update. Then it went to searching for updates. Then the screen showed watchos1.01 is up to date and just stay stuck like that. My phone has ios12 and won’t pair. What do I need to do to fix this.

Hi Whothis,

Thanks for bringing this issue to Apple Support Communities today. It sounds like you are unable to update your Apple Watch. Updates are important and I will do my best to help.

It sounds like you may have the original Apple Watch. It can be updated to watchOS 4.3.2: About watchOS 4 Updates.

Make sure all these steps for updating the watch have been followed: Update your Apple Watch. One of these steps includes "Make sure that your Apple Watch is on its charger and is at least 50 percent charged."

I'd also advise taking the iPhone out of Airplane Mode and Low Power Mode when attempting to update the Apple Watch.

I hope this helps.

Have a great weekend!
